A review of TiVo Mini. The set-top box lets you watch live TV and shows recorded on your TiVo DVR in other rooms of your house. But is it worth the $100?
I"ve connected my WNCE3001 to a tivo mini because i cannot run new networking cables between rooms in my apartment easily or cheaply. I have no problems with live television but cannot consistently connect to the shows recorded on my Tivo Roamio without having to power cycle my tivo at least a couple of times a day. It is probably a Tivo limitation but is there a way we can circumvent it by changing some configuration settings either for the WNCE3001 or for my router which is a Netgear WNDR4500 v1 ?
Connecting a TiVo Wireless N adapter to a router, that does not support WPS
My Roamio Pro is connected via ethernet wire to my AC router. My Mini is connected via ethernet wire to my Linksys WUMC710 AC Bridge. The bridge connects to the router via wireless AC one room away, at a distance of about 15 feet and 1 wall. The system works perfectly fine, and required no advanced setup. The Mini acts exactly as if it is simply connected via ethernet wire directly to the router.
The TiVo Mini, which lets you watch live programming and your TiVo recordings on another television, is a new toy for current Premiere 4 DVR owners, but it has too many restrictions to be the killer product that TiVo aficionados are looking for.
I’ve long been a proponent of hub and spoke video distribution model and the 2013 TiVo Mini single-handily kept me in the fold. Dropping the TiVo extender’s service fee only sweetened the deal . However, I’ve long pined for a wireless iteration having been blessed with solid coverage – now cranked to 11 with eero .
I know TiVo says to use a wired connection or moca, but has anyone tried a wifi AC connection to a mini using something like NETGEAR AC750.

The TiVo Mini ($99.99 direct, plus $5.99 monthly service fee) is a media hub made to work with the four-tuner TiVo Premiere 4 and the TiVo Premiere Elite , which is now the Premiere XL4. Like the competing Dish Network Joey , it"s an add-on to a primary TiVo DVR rather than a stand-alone product. It does what it aims to do, letting you watch live programming or your TiVo recordings in another room of the house, with some drawbacks. The thing is, though, if you"re a TiVo fan with current equipment, you probably already have a DVR in your bedroom (or wherever else you want to watch TiVo recordings) and you don"t need the Mini. It isn"t the product TiVo needs to bring new subscribers into the fold, nor is it the thing that will keep older Series 2 and Series 3 TiVo owners from jumping ship to a satellite or cable company DVR.
