Depending on your budget, an LCD like the Epson 3000/3500 can show a higher-contrast image and is easier to install because of its flexible range of lens-shift. Even at a smaller budget the DLPs like the Benq w1070/1075/2050 and the Vivitek 1186 will be more flexible and better-looking with higher color-brightness and fullcolor contrast than anything like the Optoma hd28/26/141 while also having more lens-shift and zoom range.though less range than the Epson 3000/3500. The Benq and Vivitek can be found around $500-700.

Sticker shock might be to biggest obstacle for most folks considering buying a home theater projection system. The MSRP of the Optoma HD27 is over $600, which is admittedly somewhat pretty steep for a lot of folks, although not nearly as much as you potentially could spend if you really wanted to.

MY current projector is a Optoma HD65. I am looking to upgrade in the next week or so. I"ve been looking at the Optoma HD141x, HD26 - BenQ 1070 and 1075. I think I have it narrowed down to the HD26 and 1075. I am just torn. I love the $699 price of the HD26 but from looking in these forums its been put down for its color wheel and bulb wattage. I do like the idea of horizontal correction in the 1075 as it will make the mounting a little easier, but not sure its worth the $400 extra. Does anyone have any input? Is the 3200 ANSI on the HD26 going to be much brighter than the 1075 2200 ANSI I have a feeling that either are going to be a huge improvement over the HD65 Thanks all
Hey everyone, looking to buy my projector next week during any Black Friday sales. Trying to decide between these two. I
Say what you will about Optoma’s no-nonsense approach to design that stretches to almost all of its products, at least you have to admit they’re distinctive. Straight out of the box it was obvious the 11.73″ x 3.7″ x 9.0″, 5.2lb Optoma HD27 was following in the footsteps of about a dozen other projectors before it, including its direct spiritual ancestor, the HD142X .

I originally planned to order a BenQ HT2050 and an Epson Home Cinema 2040, compare them, and keep the best one. Then I started my research before those orders were fulfilled through another suppliers. (I have a bias towards Optoma projectors because I"ve had an Optoma HD65 for several years. It still works great, but I wanted to upgrade to a full 1080p projector during Cyber Week.) After consuming many reviews and researching the Darbee technology, I cancelled those orders and went with the Optoma HD28DSE through Visual Apex - and hoped for the best. Most of the negatives in the HD28DSE reviews were either not an issue for me or things I could overcome, like having to change the mount placement a couple times due to the the absence of lense shift. (Also, unless your playing a game or watching a loud movie, turning off the Dynamic Black, noisy fan setting - which is still quieter than my HD65 - is recommended because the image looks just as good without it IMO.) Bottom line is that after calibration, my HD28DSE looks like a 120 inch diagonal LED TV and better than some of my friend"s Epsons and BenQs.
