The monitor turns off and on repeatedly. It comes on and shows the picture but then turns off and comes back on and - CTX S762A 17" LCD Monitor question

New viewsonic 21". particualrly (it seems, not seriously tested) after reboot, the monitor flicks on for about a second, then goes black. If I power it off, it comes back on for second- then goes black. You can (just!) get somethings going in this "mode" but it"s quite hopeless for any real use. I thought it might be some sort of auto-turn-off setting- but I haven"t had any joy with that. It"s definitely not the gfx card or power- at least, other monitors don"t have the same problem (and neither does this one most of the time, and when the gfx card dies the monitor indicates there"s no signal- which it"s not doing here). Seems to get better if left for a while. Seems a bit random in its attacks. I"ve thought that a reboot- and/or leaving the computer off for a few minutes- can fix it. But other times it"s just happened for a while, and then seemingly fixed itself. I"d love a solution. (I have another of these monitors on another machine, and it"s never given me a problem.)
