In this post I explain how I test the inverter board in a laptop. The inverter failure is very similar .
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop where the LCD goes black at apparently random times after being turned on. The computer remains on and apparently continuing whatever functions it was working on, but the monitor is dark. Sometimes it will only stay on for a minute after bootup and other times I can use it for 10-20 minutes before it goes dark. I am pretty confident its not a battery issue and it shouldn’t be a hibernation or sleep issue, since I am always actively using the computer when this happens.

Viewsonic's midrange monitor gets you into 2560x1440 gaming without dropping a ton of dough.
These days high-resolution panels are being offered at prices seen only in 1080p displays just a few years ago, so if you"ve got a graphics card that can handle it, pushing the pixels beyond 1080p is not only within reach but highly recommended. ViewSonic"s VX2778 27-inch 1440p monitor (See it on Amazon ) / (See it on Amazon UK) is a midrange model that lets you make the jump to 1440p for just $350, and though it doesn"t offer any bells and whistles for gaming beyond its resolution, but what it does offer is pretty good for the price. Let"s dive in:
ViewSonic's VP2771 is a 27' IPS panel with sRGB color, a 14-bit lookup table, factory-certified accuracy, and an optional auto-calibration kit.
The VP2771 is an sRGB display with extended bit-depth courtesy of that 14-bit internal lookup table. It has preset modes for sRGB, Rec.709, EBU, SMPTE-C, DICOM-SIM, and even iPhone. Factory certifications are included for the first four standards with color and white point errors under 2dE with correct gamma tracking. In addition, the monitor features ViewModes for different game types, movie watching, and other common tasks. You can also calibrate it yourself using the OSD or, with an optional kit, create up to three custom modes that are stored internally.

The ViewSonic VA708a is a 17" monitor ideal for legacy and customized applications that require a 5:4 aspect ratio. With 1280x1024 resolution, sRGB color correction technology, and a fast response time, this monitor delivers vivid and accurate colors for incredible front-of-screen performance. Featuring a matte finish design, this 17" monitor can fit on any desktop, while a VESA-compatible mount provides additional convenience and flexibility. In addition, energy-saving eco-mode setting offers solid performance while delivering low TCO perfect for enterprise and government use.
Despite its build quality flaws, the ViewSonic VX2460H-LED represents a great value for your general-purpose monitor needs.
On the back are two HDMI ports, a VGA, and a headphone jack that all thankfully face the rear instead of down. I know not everyone appreciates this design as it may mean the monitor has to stand out a bit farther from the wall it"s in front of in order to plug it in, but I think the convenience that back-facing connections provide in terms of being able to be accessed easily is more important for most users. Wall-mounters, however, may be disappointed to learn of the lack of built-in VESA support.
