Essentially, both of Samsung MU8000 and Sony X900E offer good picture quality for their class due they have deep black level and strong contrast that makes their dark performance is great. Nevertheless, compare between them, Sony X900E offer a bit deeper black level that makes its native contrast ratio is also a bit stronger than Samsung MU8000. But because their difference is not too significant, most of people might not notice about their difference. Blacks of images looks very dark on both of their screen that makes darker color looks more accurate and the picture looks more realistic. The Sony X900E uses Android TV for an interface which is nice because it offers a full array of streaming content, but is almost insufferably slow. Android TV on the Shield TV, with a faster processor, is a much better experience for the end user. You can speed up the Sony by disabling some services and entering developer mode to change presets, but most people will never do that. While Android TV could be good, on the Sony X900E it leaves me using an external media streamer instead.
